Week 3 Part B: Developing a Brand

My artwork is my business. What I mean is that I am an Artist, and it is my business selling my artwork and eventually (hopefully) merchandise. I do not necessarily have a logo. To clarify, I started out with my initials on a black background as my logo, and uploaded it as my profile picture on social media. I quickly abandoned that idea because I didn't think it was helping me on social media. Other artists in my category do not have a logo, especially as their profile picture on social media. They are the face of their business. I want to get some good quality photos taken of me for use on social media and on my website. So far from the assignments in this course I am learning so much and have a list of improvements I want to make on my website and social media.

My website does have a tagline, "Otherworldly Beautiful Art" and I feel it shows that I try to channel beauty in my paintings and drawings. I also chose the word "Otherworldly" because it is how one of my art teachers described my work and I really liked it. For now, I like the color scheme on my website, it is a white background with black colored font. The Title link and menu background are different shades of teal. I chose a theme with those colors, because it was easy on the eyes and it was relaxing/peaceful to look at. My website used to have an ocean image on the home page, but I didn't feel it was relevant to the point of my website (showcasing and selling my art), so I removed it. The font isn't anything special, I just wanted it to be easy to read.

One thing of consistency that I tried to keep was the idea of coming up with a brand name for me and my art. I chose "Artistically Ethereal" and used that as the link for my website, and the username for most of my social media. It worked for Instagram and Facebook, but for Twitter I had to pick something else. The reason I couldn't use it on Twitter is because it was too many characters for the Twitter username. It was pretty disappointing because I was hoping for consistency across the different social media platforms. I used to have a TikTok account but its currently inactive. TikTok is somewhat controversial to use these days, so I don't know if I will be reviving it or not.

In terms of business cards, I am not happy with mine. I listened to the advice of another person and ended up with something I don't necessarily like. I am planning on re-designing my business cards, and I have also been looking into using a type of digital business card. In the past I have considered having an email newsletter but later decided against it, since I have put my business pursuits on pause while I attend school to develop my artistic skills. I have a blog on the homepage of my website, but I hardly use it. I also embedded a linked feed of my Instagram and Twitter posts, and added a text link to my Facebook page. I plan on changing all the profile pictures to the same image so there is some recognizability between the different platforms.

Ideally I would like to change the theme of my website (I used WordPress software to publish my website). Although I do like the teal color on the website, I feel the site itself is too boring and unappealing. It's bland. I would like to have something more vibrant that is not harsh on the eyes but is visually appealing. I also want a theme that has icon links to my various social media. I do like the linked embedded feeds of Instagram and Twitter, so I'd definitely like to keep those. As previously mentioned I would also like a good picture (specifically of me), on my website that I can also use as the profile image on my various social media platforms. The reason for that is because it will unify everything and make it all recognizable as me and my brand.
