I have never really considered having a newsletter, as I don't know much about how to set one up and then get people to sign up for it. If I was to have a newsletter I think I would send one out monthly. I don't want to flood peoples emails with over information but rather engage with them monthly to let them know whats going on for that particular month. I think the types of information my newsletter would contain, would be site updates, new blog posts, when I am working on a new series of paintings, and upcoming events. I could also include sales on artwork or prints I am selling.
I think customers would enjoy seeing these things because if they aren't regularly visiting my site, then knowing there are new blog posts could encourage them to visit the site and read the posts. Event updates could intrigue readers to try and attend or they could let others know about the events. Also sales notifications could encourage people to buy a painting or print that maybe they have been saving up for, or it could encourage them to reconsider a painting/print.
I think it's a good idea to subscribe to competitors newsletters. I don't know if many artists utilize them, but I am willing to research and see.
